Articulated lifts, scissor lifts, basket lifts - what are the differences?

Lifts are some of the key tools in the construction industry, landscape maintenance projects and many other areas. Three common types are: articulating, scissor and basket lifts. They differ in design and application, which is worth considering before choosing the right model.

Articulated lifts, scissor lifts, basket lifts - what are the differences?

Articulated jacks

Articulated lifts are versatile and allow access to hard-to-reach areas. They are characterised by their ability to pivot in two places - at the arm attachment point and under the crown of the basket. This makes them ideal for working in confined spaces. Their flexibility makes them perfect for work in urban areas where access to the work area may be difficult.

Scissor lifts

Scissor lifts have a more stable design compared to articulated lifts. They are usually used for work in open areas where a large working platform is required. They have a scissor-based lifting mechanism, which makes them stable even at greater heights. They are excellent for work on construction sites and infrastructure maintenance.

Aerial work platforms

Aerial work platforms, also known as telescopic lifts, are characterised by their long, telescopic arm. This makes them ideal for working at considerable heights. Unlike articulated lifts, they are less flexible but offer a large vertical and horizontal reach. They are commonly used for maintenance work, installation or repairs at height.

Choosing the right lift depends on the specific work it is to be used for. When deciding on a rental, it is worth considering the type of terrain, the height of the work to be carried out and the accessibility of the location where the equipment will be used.
