What should you know about generators before using them in your household?

The use of power generators is extremely wide. They are used both in the industrial sector and at mass events. More recently, they have also become popular in homes, for personal use. What to look out for before choosing a power generator? The main advantage of generators is that they provide emergency or primary power wherever access to the mains is needed. Depending on the type of engine and fuel used to power the generator, you can find on the market:

• gensets with combustion engine (petrol or diesel)
• liquid gas gensets
• battery gensets

For domestic use, small power generators will be suitable. There is also no need to buy high-powered generators (compared to the power required for a mass event, for example). Battery-powered generators are the only ones that can be used indoors, but they have the disadvantage of relatively short operation - until the battery runs out. Combustion gensets are more functional, but should only be used outdoors as they produce exhaust fumes, make noise and require air cooling. They come in stationary or portable versions. The power of the power generator should be greater than the total power of the appliances that will be connected to such a genset. In this respect, the maximum power of the device is taken into account. Single-phase generators are the most common choice for single-family homes. If a generator is to be used only once, it is worth considering renting it.
